Since 1984, The Mountain School has been welcoming motivated high school juniors from across the country to participate in a unique blend of rigorous academics, hands-on farm work, and transformative community living. Our students don't just learn about sustainability and environmental systems; they live it every day through planting gardens, caring for livestock, splitting wood, cooking meals, and managing our farm operations.

At a Glance: The Mountain School

Program Type: Semester-long boarding program for high school juniors (limited spots for spring sophomores and fall seniors)

Enrollment: 45 students per semester from over 25 schools nationwide

Living Situation: Small house-style dorms with faculty dorm parents, fostering close-knit community

Daily Experience: Morning classes, afternoon farm/woods work, outdoor programming, and shared meals

Tuition: $39,750 per semester (Need-based financial aid available)

Farm & Forest Life

Daily farm work isn't just a chore; it's the foundation of our community and learning. Students plant and harvest vegetables, care for sheep, cows, and chickens, split firewood, tap maple trees, and maintain our campus through meaningful, shared work.
